02/97 – Present, XYZ Airplane Co., Mfg Research and Development

  • Senior Engineer – New product development – Composite Technologies, Composite Laminating Technology development for new aircraft incorporating lean-manufacturing and 6-Sigma principals in the earliest possible stages of development
  • Lead engineer on composite processing technique which provides high quality composite laminates without the use of an autoclave.
  • Focal point for new aircraft fuselage and engine nacelle technology development. Coordinate a multidiscipline group to determine the most appropriate technologies to pursue for New Airplane development programs.
  • Support of composite engine nacelle operational activities. Support activities include analysis and resolution of process issues, support team coordination. Design and implementation of specialty tools, introduction of off-the-shelf specialty tools.
  • Design / development of application-specific in situ heat cure systems compatible with the shop-floor environment for sealer and plastic shim cure acceleration. Development required specification revisions to allow the new technologies to be implemented.
  • Lead engineer for Dielectric cure monitoring and cure characterization of various composite, adhesive and sealer materials.

  • Development and Supplemental Type Certification (STC) of various modifications to general aviation aircraft. These modifications included power-plant upgrade replacement, cowl flap modification, replacement engine and propeller controls, addition of landing gear doors, upgrade replacement of existing brake system, upgrade replacement of existing windshield, addition of computerized engine monitoring system.
  • Flight test planning, instrumentation, data collection and data reduction / analysis.
  • Interface with FAA Aircraft Certification Office (ACO) – testing proposals, test reporting, STC Installation instructions, flight test coordination, drawing revision.
  • Interface with Manufacturer Inspection District Office (MIDO) – conformity inspection of STC installations, conformity inspection of Part Manufacture Authority (PMA) parts and parts kits, quality manual maintenance, regulatory compliance audits.
  • Other responsibilities included: coordination of parts manufacturing under FAA PMA, part design, part production planning, composite tool design, design and implementation of composite repair of aerodynamic fairings and engine cowlings, vender interface and monitoring.
