92287 Principal Scientist – Polymer Chemistry

Proven hands-on ability to work in the laboratory to invent, formulate, optimize for transition into production, and test new patentable high performance polymer systems, such as molding compounds, coatings, adhesives, composite resins, sealants, and foams.  Experience with chemical synthesis is a plus. Candidate must have a proven track record of developing new patentable materials and transitioning them into successful products for the Defense and/or private sector.

Experience with a wide variety of chemistries.  Polyurethanes, epoxies, phenolics, polyureas, silicones, acrylics, and UV cure, water based, and 100% solids systems are all appropriate.

Primary inventor on multiple patents on the above inventions (our current division lead has over 20).

Proven track record of writing and winning applied research and development proposals for the private sector and/or Department of Defense (Air Force, Navy, Army Marine Corps, etc.).

Proven track record of successful, on-time, and on-budget project management of DoD sponsored applied research and development contracts. Private sector contacts are also desired.

Good working relationships with DoD specialists in these technical areas that have research funding authority.

Proven track record of converting invented formulations into multiple successful products, including involvement with production scale up.

Experience managing project/contract budgets and writing and winning research proposals is required. Education: Required: BS Chemistry; Desirable: M.S or Ph.D.. US Citizenship and the ability to obtain an industrial security clearance are mandatory. Candidates with active or recent security clearances are preferred. Candidate must be a self starter, creative, and organized team player with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
