Carbon Manufacturing Engineer
Summary: Support the Carbon Manufacturing Areas (Molding, Machining, Bonding & Finishing) by providing manufacturing engineering for both sustaining Engineering as well as support New Product Development.
Responsibilities:
- Balanced responsibilities to both sustaining current production along with input into new production development for domestically sourced projects.
- Design tooling and develop processes for new composite products
- Troubleshoot and correct production issues, such as scrap parts, out-of tolerance parts, and equipment malfunctions as they arise.
- Develop process improvements to reduce cost through scrap reduction, decreased cycle time, or improved material usage.
- Assure product and process quality by understanding process capabilities, confirming manufacturing processes, and providing training assistance to operators.
- Collect measurement and time standard data to validate new process/product start-ups
- Design or spec equipment for composite processing.
- Conduct manufacturing engineering research, design, and development projects of high complexity and variety.
- Create and modify manufacturing equipment, tools, and processes to ensure parts meet engineering specifications.
- Serve as a technical resource to other departments as necessary.
- Train manufacturing staff to use all processes, equipment, and documentation required to manufacture parts.
- Schedule manufacturing work to meet completion dates.
- Record and analyze manufacturing test data.
- Coordinate manufacturing engineering activities with domestic/foreign design teammates as needed
- Travel as necessary both domestically and internationally (typically China and Taiwan).
- Complete engineering tasks using company’s internal systems (including SolidWorks, EPDM, Matrix, Enovia, @Task).
- Effectively balance multiple projects, responsibilities, and tasks simultaneously.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Composite Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Extensive knowledge of composite materials, processes, and technology. Experience in bladder molding and compression molding is a plus.
- Experience with composite part mold design and fabrication.
- Thorough understanding of composite machining processes, cutting tools, and fixture design.
- Proficient in Solid Works, MSM Office.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, statistical analysis and solid modeling abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to interact effectively with domestic and international teammates.
- Enjoys being hands-on in the manufacturing environment.
- Passionate about manufacturing!
- Able to cover some alternate shift work when needed (evenings/weekends)
- Hands on experience with CNC programming/operation. [Haas / Fadal / Centroid]
- Experience designing processes, equipment, and documentation for manufacturing parts.
- Attitude that fosters continuous improvement and flexibility.
- Proficient planning and organization skills, initiative, accountability, and attention to details.
- Competent computer database, spreadsheet, presentation, and word processing abilities.
- Fanuc Robotics experience a plus.
