Job Description   Process Engineer Specialist, Eastern MA

Department:  Engineering

Position Reports to:      Engineering Manager

Acting in a key, hands on role within our process engineering team, this individual’s primary responsibilities are to provide expertise and leadership to maximize the quality and efficiency of the thermoset and thermoplastic coating processes including modifying, installing and running equipment to manufacture high performance products. A superior knowledge of fluid mechanics related to air flow, balancing ovens and make up air as well as a strong general mechanical background is necessary to drive the development and implementation of innovative solutions that will improve the quality of our products and the productivity of our manufacturing facility.  This individual will collaborate with Research and Development to create sustainable processes to fulfill customer’s product needs and will work with all members of our team to  ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support manufacturing and facility maintenance including:
    • Working directly with the manufacturing team to develop new equipment specifications and implement new and support existing equipment including  procurement of parts and equipment
    • Accountability for Fluid Dynamic processes including air flow, facility air makeup and balancing ovens.
    • Maintenance of oxidizers, tenter frames, tower coaters, IR and natural gas ovens and general facilities
    • Ensuring proper preventative maintenance procedures are established and performed
    • Generation of working mechanical and electrical drawings with part specifications
    • Maintenance and expansion of contractor relationships
    • Providing operator training and hands on/standby support as needed
  • Provide support for multiple prepreg manufacturing lines focusing on:
    • Daily process monitoring
    • Maintenance of processing parameters
    • Achieving lot to lot consistency
    • Identifying and implementing opportunities for change-over time reduction
    • Creation and maintenance of standard operating procedures for equipment and processing tools
  • Capital budget and equipment project planning and management of project timelines
  • Work with EH&S to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Work with Quality on Document Control and Contract Review to ensure proper setup and utilization
  • Perform ergonomic and hazard review on equipment
  • Assist facility in establishing lean manufacturing principles

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s degree an asset
  • 10+ years’ manufacturing experience in Aerospace or composites a must
  • Experience in Fluid Dynamics and coating/web handling.
  • General Software:   Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, and Power Point), AutoCAD, and Solid Works
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interface with customers and interpret and incorporate these into the facilities processes and procedures
  • Ability to analyze and provide solutions for existing processes
  • Leadership skills including ability to provide direction, develop and implement processes, motivate others and build consensus within a team environment.
  • Experience working with equipment suppliers on design modifications
  • Experience with oxidizers, tenter frames, tower coaters, IR heaters, natural gas ovens and knowledge of thermoset and thermoplastic resins and processes an asset.
  • Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma Knowledge
  • Up to 10% travel may be required
