SUMMARY

This position is responsible for assuring that plant manufacturing operations operate to the full extent of their capabilities by optimizing facilities, equipment, logistics, working capital and human resources.  The incumbent will provide leadership on customer issues relating to products manufactured at the facility.  He or She is ideally a mechanical, chemical or textile engineer with a solid background in plant operations.

Successful manufacturing requires continuous assessment of work practices and technologies, so as to meet customer expectations, eliminate waste, improve productivity, enhance quality and make work safer and more satisfying for employees. Changing customer requirements and the technical complexities of  operating a multi-process facility require a competent Manager who can successfully assess problems, evaluate production and engineering options and find the best alternatives for satisfying customer needs, while meeting cost and profit objectives. Operations must be fully compliant with all regulations and remain flexible and efficient.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Plant Manager is charged with developing the people and manufacturing operations for Company’s operations at this site in order to help the organization achieve long term goals and significant growth.

Specific responsibilities and success factors of the position are as follows:

 

  • Develop a manufacturing plan for the business based on present and expected needs from the marketplace, including assessment of required skills and recruitment of employees, evaluation of current and new technology and best practices and institution of programs to continually enhance Company capabilities and competitiveness. Create certainty of purpose for the whole manufacturing team.
  • Plan and justify a capital spending plan and install conversion equipment and ancillary facility requirements. Purchase equipment for improved safety, quality, productivity, capability and cost within Company’s financial plan.
  • Streamline systems and processes to improve information exchange, quality, flexibility, throughput and costs. Instill pride, discipline and vigilance in all processes and quality initiatives.
  • Be constantly attentive to the health and safety of all employees and the community in which we work.
  • Invest in the development of his/her direct reports and through them, the whole production team; use specific-skill training and personal coaching to continually build pride and purpose in every individual.

 

 CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

 The successful candidate has developed the required skills through a variety of production and engineering roles of increasing complexity and responsibility.  He/she understands the strategic needs of the business and the particular and vital role played by manufacturing in generating organizational success.

 

Education

  • Engineering Degree (chemical; mechanical, electrical) preferred or Applied Sciences (chemistry, physics, textile technology)
  • Business (MBA) desirable

 Experience

  • 7-10 years of related manufacturing experience (Prepreg, Pressing & Cutting,  Resin manufacture & Formulation) within an AS9100 or ISO 9001 certified facility with at least 3 years as a Manager responsible for functional areas such as Production, Quality, or Engineering.
  • Experience leading a team in a Lean Manufacturing environment; the ideal candidate will have been involved in the implementation of a lean manufacturing program with a working knowledge of 5S.
  • Background in manufacturing industries including composites, chemical, automotive and plastics.
  • Knowledge and hands-on involvement in implementation and use of Six Sigma methodology.

  • Operations management including: process engineering; quality control; and production management
  • Highly skilled and knowledgeable in the latest manufacturing technologies.
